Ketogenic Diet for Epilepsy

A recent retrospective review examined the efficacy of the ketogenic diet for epilepsy patients at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.  Twenty-four patients, aged 1-15 years who remained on the ketogenic diet for at least one year were evaluated.  The ketogenic diet was associated with greater than 50% reduction in seizure frequency, reduction in the number of antiepileptic drugs used, and an improvement in background electroencephalogram at one year in approximately one third of the patients.
