THIRD ANNUAL CAM LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

AMSA is seeking medical students with a strong interest in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) combined with the desire for leadership training in CAM to participate in the third annual Leadership Training Program (LTP). This program is supported and developed by the AMSA Foundation’s Educational Development for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (EDCAM) project grant funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM). The LTP is an experience of a lifetime. 20 medical students from across the country will gather on the campus of the Omega Institute for a weeklong, intensive retreat dedicated to complementary and alternative medicine and leadership skills training.

2005-2006 EDCAM STUDENT DIRECTOR POSITION

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Foundation invites applications for the yearlong position of part-time student director for the Educational Development for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (EDCAM) Project. The EDCAM initiative is a five-year grant project funded by the NIH-National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) focused on bringing educational and leadership opportunities to medical students interested in the field of CAM/Integrative Medicine. The student director will play an integral role in project management and development of the EDCAM initiative. EDCAM works in progress include a pilot test of comprehensive CAM curricula at six medical schools, a CAM leadership training program, and expansion of CAM resources and web-based resources. The student director will work off-site and in collaboration with the EDCAM grant team in assisting with the above projects. Successful applicants will be enrolled as an MD/DO medical student and will have demonstrated interest in the field of CAM. Active AMSA and HuMed members are preferred. The student director position will start July 1, 2005 and will end July 1, 2006. Compensation is $2,500 for the year, plus travel expenses.

CAM RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

AMSA has been building and maintaining an on-site CAM reference library of current texts, journals and materials on CAM. EDCAM curriculum modules, resources and evaluation tools are available to the public online at http://www.amsa.org/humed/CAM/resources.cfm. In collaboration with the AMSA Humanistic Medicine Action Committee (HuMed), EDCAM has centralized a student CAM Resource Center web page for posting all information and resources related to CAM and (www.amsa.org/humed/camresources). We are currently updating the AMSA Medical School Directory (http://www.amsa.org/humed/CAM/CAM_search.cfm) to reflect the most current CAM educational opportunities for students and residents. We have contacted schools already listed asking them to update their information, as well as new institutions to encourage them to list their information.
